President’s New Year Message for 2017
Hello to all my fellow Building Safety Codes Officers, and welcome to 2017.
The upcoming year shows all the signs of being another interesting year with more than enough curveballs to keep the role of Building Safety Codes Officers interesting and challenging. With all the changes in our recent code and the challenges these changes have introduced into the upcoming projects; I already have numerous meetings with builders in different municipalities to help them be prepared for what they will be encountering in the new year. This seems to be especially true as we are work through the details of implementing Section 9.36 and the NECB 2011. Remember we are all in this together, if you come across a good method, source or information or something you think will help the rest us who are in the trenches PLEASE take the time to share it with the someone from the executive and we can turn around and share it across the Province. It is very important that we contribute to each other’s success, I look forward to seeing this in action in 2017!
I am looking forward to our annual conference this year, which is beginning to be scheduled by our Conference Committee. Did you have any suggestions from last year, or things that you want to see in the upcoming year? Let us know and we will strive to grow our conference to meet your needs. Details will be announced and distributed by the Conference Committee.
This new year will see the executive engaging with our various representatives on Safety Codes Sub-Councils and working to provide clear information to our membership as it becomes available, distributing it in a timely manner. Reports from our representatives will be sent to your email, so please login to your account on our website and make sure your email address is correct.
This year saw the launch of our website upgrades, which have had a few bumps. We are extending the deadline for when late fees apply to memberships to Feb 28, 2017 because of some of the delays. If you are experiencing any issues please do not hesitate to contact me and I will assist you to the best of my abilities.
A special thanks to all of our bursary applicants this year, we had an excellent group this year. ABOA continues to give back to our members, and invest in the future of Albertans, this is something we should be proud of as an organization. Don’t forget if someone you know is applying this year to get those applications in early…timing can matter!
The annual Safety Codes Council Summit Conference will be held in June, once again in Banff, I look forward to the opportunity to meet some of you there.
The ABOA executive is working to expand opportunities to participate in ABOA activities over this year. If you’re willing to help please contact David Hayes and we will see where more of you can contribute to improving our industry, and by proxy improve the homes and lives of all the people in Alberta.
